CampoSud is an island of action and thought, temporary and autonomous, where artists, curators, philosophers and intellectuals are invited to explore the tension between aesthetics and praxis, between performative and political practices in the field of contemporary art.
Originating from a reflection on the Southern Question, initiated by Antonio Gramsci this past century, CampoSud projects and conjugates Gramscian thought within the present, in the aim to confront contemporary issues such as migration, new citizenships, the right to education, gender politics, ecological thought.
CampoSud is a space of research and reflection in which the most diverse languages converge. Multiple experiences of thinkers, artists and participants are linked by the fil rouge of praxis.
South is to be interpreted as a revolutionary practice far from the hegemonic though; it is not as a geographical dimension but as a poetic space, state of mind, revolutionary, aesthetic and political praxis.
Four days of School of Revolution – a lab of ideas coexistence inspired by the free School of politic – conceived by Gramsci during his detention in the island of Ustica, will transform the public spaces of Giardini Pubblici, CARTEC and Teatro Massimo into a platform of sharing, research, participation, and reflections.
Lectures, screenings and experience sharing are some of the necessary tools for an active critical analysis of the sociopolitical issues addressed. Performances, rituals and collective constructions of imaginaries complete the activities of CampoSud and shape a new in-progress space for sharing and meeting, contamination and experimentations, within which communion constitutes a language of itself, a poetic and political tool to imagine a different reality.
